The Wonders of Africa

The first great wonder I came across was the great pyramid of Giza. It is located just outside of Cairo. These three pyramids were built by Egyptian kings in the fourth dynasty. That means that these pyramids were built roughly 4600 years ago.

I have always heard a lot about the Niger river but never new exactly what it was. Its source of water is in the Fouta Djallon highlands of Guinea. The Niger river helps enrich the land around it. Many fisherfolk, rice agriculturalists, and millet farmers ling along the boarder of the river. It is one of the major three rivers of Africa.

The City of Great Zimbabwe is the most famous of a large group of stone-walled enclosures on the Zimbabwean plateau. Scholars believe that this enclosure built by the Shona people was made over the course of 100 years. It was thought to be completed in the 11th century. It was at one time, home to nearly 18,000 people.
