There are several elements of African culture that are evident in the movie Roots. The transition from childhood to manhood is a large part of their culture. They are very respectful to their elders and peers. They have a ceremony in which they must become a man. They will not be well respected in their village and tribe if they do not pass the test to become a man
We also saw the tribes people care for their animals such as goats. They raise goats for food and their fur. When the boy fought of the leopard with his weapons it showed that he was trying to defend his goat.
Animals are also a big part of African culture because they live amongst the tribes people.
This tribe does not enjoy killing in war but they feel that they must defend themselves and their tribe. That is how they feel about that topic (they are not violent)

Savana Folklore
Summary: There as a rabbit who was well-liked by every animal in his community. One day he was coming back to his house and he was locked out of his house. He never locked his house because he was very well liked. The voice from inside the house, "It is I! The one with many jointed ankles, who crushes elephants and rhinos to the earth and tramples lions into dust!"The rabbit was very intimidated and he called all of his friends from the community. Each friend (lion, elephant, etc) was scared of the voice coming from inside the rabbits house. When the rabbit and his friends eventually broke into the house there was just a small caterpillar crawling out of the house. They laughed because they had been afraid of the caterpillar.
This story told about African Animals.many Maasai tales are about animals. Some explain why animals look or act a certain way, while others are simply humorous tales.
The part that was entertaining was when all of the animals were intimidated by a little caterpillar. They did not know what species of animal the voice was coming from.
I think that the myth taught not to judge anything by the way it is sounds or is described. Some animals may be stronger than others physically but not always from an attitude or verbal standpoint.
I think that this can be applied in my life because often times people judge food by the way it sounds or looks and then they end up trying it and they may like it. I also think that it says that you shouldn't judge a person before you meet them and understand where they are coming from.

The Wonders of Africa
The first great wonder I came across was the great pyramid of Giza. It is located just outside of Cairo. These three pyramids were built by Egyptian kings in the fourth dynasty. That means that these pyramids were built roughly 4600 years ago.
I have always heard a lot about the Niger river but never new exactly what it was. Its source of water is in the Fouta Djallon highlands of Guinea. The Niger river helps enrich the land around it. Many fisherfolk, rice agriculturalists, and millet farmers ling along the boarder of the river. It is one of the major three rivers of Africa.
The City of Great Zimbabwe is the most famous of a large group of stone-walled enclosures on the Zimbabwean plateau. Scholars believe that this enclosure built by the Shona people was made over the course of 100 years. It was thought to be completed in the 11th century. It was at one time, home to nearly 18,000 people.

Thoughts of Africa
I think of poverty. In these poverous regions there are many deseases such as AIDS, Malaria, and Cholera. A lot of the living conditions are poor, some of the tribes peoples homes are made out earth and elephant dung.I also think of the multiple species of animals. I was in Africa and a saw many lions and zebra etc. There is a lot of competition and i saw animals hunting. There are also many beautiful things about Africa. I think of clear sky's and beautiful grassland. I also heard Mr. Cannon speak about pirates that they have along th coast of Africa. Africa is a unique and interesting place.

SS Movie Reactions (Obsession)
1. Culture of Terror 8. Hitler & Mufti
2. Culture of Jihad 9. What they Want?
3. Culture of Hatred 10. We've Been Here Before
4. Media of Terrorism
5. Jihad in the WEST
6. Culture of Denial
7. Common Denominators
1. Terrorists try to strike fear into a country with an attack. They do it to countries that they dislike. The bombing of the world trade center was considered not only an act of terror but a act of war. They considered the most honorable death for Arabs is to kill someone who apposes Arabs. The Arabs feel that terror is the way to carry out the will of Allah. Terror is the only thing that many of the Islamic people know in their lives. When we watched the MTV true life, i thought the Jews were a bit harsh with the restrictions but now i see why they have to be.
2. Jihad has attacked numerous nations around the world. Jihad attacks in Africa, Europe, U.S, etc. They do not care about their lives and will risk their lives to take the lives of others (who they hate). It is estimated that 10-15% of people support Jihad. Jihad to tries to conquer the world for Allah. Children are being taught and brainwashed at young age to support Jihad and want to die for it. Jihad is a violent group that is bent on taking over the world. They will kill Americans/ the west at any cost.
3. Jihad portrays America poorly and refers to them as the enemy and it encourages its people to oppose them. They portray Israel and Americans as Satan. They say that Americans are trying to kill all the Islamic people. Many of the people are brainwashed and believe everything they hear about the west. This makes them want to kill. In my opinion it seems like many of the Islamic people are maniacs that feel that destroying the west is the only goal in their entire lives. They main point is: they want to take all western powers off of the map.
5.Radical Islam has spread its thoughts in the west (in the streets of London). They stand in the streets and shout violent threats. They have considered trying to turn the white house into the Muslim House. Many Islamic people commend the people who destroyed the world trade center. They call them the magnificent 19. Muslims born in Britain are joining Jihad and willing to kill Britain Soldiers. I feel that the spread of Jihad in west could help Jihad destroy the west (partially)
6. People don't want to feel that terrorism is a single threat. People try to ignore terrorism because they don't want to believe it. There were U.S reporters/scholars that told people that Terrorism was not a threat (people must know the truth!) Many people on the West Coast try to ignore 9/11 because it happened on the East Coast of the U.S. I feel that this is a very evident problem that can't be ignored. It can put the lives of people in our country in jeopardy. People in the West must be alarmed about terrorism.
