Berlin Conference (France)

Our group was France. We tried to get land in Northern Africa so we could be close to France and the rest of Europe. France wanted to have direct control over the land that it owned. We also took some land in the West which was very rich in natural resources such as iron and gold. Most of what we did was very similar to what actually happened. We just took control of one port that they did not have. I think our group did very well. I think that Portugal, England, France (us), and Italy were winners. These countries got many of their goals.Germany and Spain were not winners but they had a difficult prompt. There was not much land left.

I feel that the Berlin conference affected Africa in many negative ways. All of the European countries had direct control over their African territory. All of the strong Africans were being shipped out of the country to be slaves. The only positive that it brought were new schools and technology. The Africans that still lived in the country were being controlled. Its effects can be seen today because of all of the poverty seen today. It is a third world country today. The countries territories may be different today as well.

The Scramble For Africa

I believe the quote "The Scramble for Africa" describes the time when multiple countries were fighting over African lands. The Berlin Conference helped decide which countries got what land in Africa. The Africans had no say in this and were not invited to the Berlin Conference. They used Africa for its resources. The land was divided and it is show i a map in our text books.
